Design and Technology Curriculum Aim

What is design and technology?

Design and technology (DT) is an area of study that focuses on planning, designing and making products for a purpose and a user. At Forest Park, DT is an inspiring and practical subject. The vision is that children will use creativity and imagination to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems, within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values; allowing children to experiment and take risks and giving them an opportunity to learn from trial and error.

Aim

Design and Technology gives children the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products. At Forest Park, we strongly believe in offering children a wide and varied curriculum that will give all children the skills and knowledge to succeed, not only academically, but also lifelong skills that could lead to a variety of aspirational career paths.

Design and Technology lessons provide children with practical opportunities to develop life skills, as well as embed key skills taught in other subjects by giving these skills a context and purpose.
