Reception have been learning all about emotions and feelings and how change and trying new things can be hard. The children began the half term by looking at the story Ruby’s worry, where they learnt that it is ok to worry sometimes and that if you talk about it, your worries will shrink down. They have also learnt about bravery and friendship through the story of the Lion Inside as well as the feelings around fear and anxiety through the book Worrysauras. All of this, alongside circle time discussions and visits to their new classes have supported their transition into a new environment with new teachers.
In addition to this, the children have enjoyed learning all about Africa through our Lion Inside story where they have learnt about how Africa has similarities and differences to England as well as learning all about Call and Response in African music through the use of voice and instruments. They have also learnt lots of facts all about Lions and Elephants.
Reception have also had the caterpillars arrive this half term. This is to review their learning around life cycles from the last half term as well linking to this half term’s focus of change and transition. They have loved witnessing the caterpillars grow and develop their chrysalis.
