Key Stage 1 phonics and reading schemes: We use a wide range of books to support our pupils and enable them to develop the ability to phonetically decode words.
“Read Write Inc” is the phonics program used to support the teaching of reading and writing in our school for pupils in Reception to Year 2. We also support children who may need additional phonic support in KS2 with our RWI program.
“Oxford Reading Tree” and “Collins Big Cat” are our main reading schemes and are used in both KS1 and KS2. We aim to match reading books to children's phonetic reading ability with all children on our RWI program also taking home a book matching their phonic ability.
We also promote reading through guided group sessions using topic related texts and further reading book schemes to engage our pupils in order to develop their reading skills.
We use a varied and wide range of reading books both fiction and non-fiction.
also use “Dandelion” in school and a scheme called “Project X” which has
been specifically developed to engage boys in reading.
We also encourage daily class reading to promote reading for pleasure.
